Since the mass mass movement took place in 1987 in Korea, forcing the authorities to announce that they want to “guarantee freedom of speech,” and to adopt the “law on the registration of periodicals,” newspapers and broadcasters have been rapidly increasing. As of the end of March 1993, there were 133 news agencies in Korea, including newspaper agencies, news agencies and radio stations, 6,037 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, and 36,494 workers engaged in information work. There are currently 71 newspapers in Korea, including 9 such as the Dong-A Ilbo Daily News, 45 local comprehensive daily newspapers, and economic newspapers, foreign newspapers and cultural sports reports.
