《钟形罩》是普拉斯唯一的一部自传体小说,主要讲述了女大学生埃斯特在青春期成长过程中遇到的困难与挫折,她甚至一度精神失常并尝试自杀。本文透过埃斯特这一个体,尝试分析在50年代的美国,女性成长普遍面临的困境。笔者认为埃斯特成长中的困境主要是由以下三个方面造成的:社会期望与个人追求之间的矛盾对立;女性成长过程中的榜样缺失;以及埃斯特完美主义的人格。 “Bell” is the only autobiographical novel Plath, mainly about the difficulties and frustrations encountered by the female college student Este during his adolescence. She was even mentally disturbed and attempted to commit suicide. This article attempts to analyze the general dilemma facing the growth of women in the United States in the 1950s through the body of Este. The author thinks that the predicament in the development of Este is mainly caused by the following three aspects: the contradiction between social expectation and personal pursuit; the lack of role models in the process of women’s growth; and the character of Este perfectionism.
