A new study shows that as more and more human-caused carbon dioxide dissolves in the ocean, the intensifying acidification of the sea makes it harder for some fish to catch fast-moving objects with the naked eye. Scientists have long found ocean acidification can damage fish’s sense of smell and hearing, and scientists have little idea of the effects on fish’s vision. As a result, the researchers turned their attention to Acanthochromis polyacanthus, a common marine fish that is well suited for laboratory research because of its ease of rearing. Just as human eyes receive the flickering of a television screen, this tropical fish can also catch fast with their eyes
