Production plants to produce a wide variety of vehicles at a lower cost should be premised on the standardization of components and assemblies. Take Benz in West Germany as an example. The company’s new truck assembly plant in Volta will focus on assembling all of the truck types it carries in the company’s spectrum in the future, while the original truckloads will produce the standard parts for the truck.
