对于医学院校的学生来说,英语学习目标应该是能够读懂医学文献,通过医学英语的学习获取医药学知识的信息,把英语作为交流工具,从而更好地为医疗工作服务。因此,医学院校的英语教学不仅要以语言基础知识为主的通用英语(English for General Purposes,EGP),而且应该教授学生特定职业或专业相关的专门用途英语(English for specific Purposes,ESP)。之前的状况是医学院校只注重通用英语(English for General Purposes,EGP)教学,而未涉及医学生所需求的医学英语知识和对专业语境的具体运用。在教育部ESP科研项目的推动下,贵阳医学院结合多年英语教学改革的经验,探讨了医学专业知识和普通英语知识的衔接,在我院临床专业学生中进行了ESP教学。通过加强ESP课程建设,探索医学人才英语教育的途径,充分认识到专业英语在医疗工作中的重要性的同时,培养学生的综合性英语学习能力。
For medical students, English learning objectives should be able to read the medical literature, medical English learning through access to medical knowledge, use of English as a communication tool to better serve the medical work. Therefore, English teaching in medical schools should not only be English for General Purposes (EGP), but should also teach students English for specific Purposes (ESP) related to specific occupations or professions. The previous situation was that medical schools only focused on teaching English for General Purposes (EGP), but did not deal with the medical English knowledge required by medical students and the specific application of the professional context. Guided by many years of experience in English teaching reform, Guiyang Medical College explored the interface between medical professional knowledge and common English knowledge and carried out ESP teaching among clinical professional students in our hospital. By strengthening the construction of ESP courses and exploring ways of English education for medical professionals, we can fully understand the importance of professional English in medical work and at the same time develop students’ comprehensive English learning ability.
