Dollymore emphasizes the complex and complicated relations between literature and history, literature and politics, literature and power, literature and ideology. He links literary texts with non-literary texts and holds that literature and history are the processes of mutual construction. It not only emphasizes the necessity of understanding history through texts but also emphasizes the importance of texts participating in historical construction as a product of a specific history and comprehensively analyzes the dynamic structural relationship between texts and history “intertextuality ”. This kind of research concept and method of interpreting the interaction between literature and history from a unique perspective of “political culture” has great referential significance for the study of our current literary criticism.
