Artist: Lirklitit Tiravania, Camin Letechaprese (Thailand) Venue: Chiang Mai, Thailand Media: Social Participation in Rural Contemporary Art Duration: 1998, Ongoing Client: Artist Initiated Land Project, Concept of No Ownership Recommended by: Kelly Carmichael In 1998, the two artists acquired a piece of land in a village near Chiang Mai, Thailand, without electricity and running water. They want to break the stereotypes of galleries and art galleries and resist the system of authority over the artists. This is the starting point for “land planning.” They have moved the venue of the arts to a field where they create a dynamic society for local farmers, students and international artists.
