Bone scintigraphy has been used in both laboratory and clinical studies to evaluate the outcome of autograft and allograft bone grafting. Recently, technetium-labeled methine phosphonate scintigraphy has also been used to estimate the survival of vascular free grafts. However, clinical experience questions the value of this method. Because of arterial angiography confirmed microvascular anastomosis in patients with bone graft can still appear positive scintigraphy. Positive bone scans can be obtained as early as three weeks after conventional bone graft. Some authors even believe that either autograft or allogeneic bone grafting can be displayed on a scintigraphy ten days after surgery. The authors divided 27 dogs into three groups and compared the composite bone graft with blood vessels, the conventional autograft, and the periosteum graft in different implantation beds.
