The forecast for base olefins shows that the rate of increase of propylene (C3 =) will exceed that of ethylene (C2 =) by 2005; the same trend occurs when the consumption of ethylene is expected to double by 2015. This will stimulate the increase of propylene production capacity. Naphtha Cracking Plants continually seek solutions that have the flexibility of processing to increase propylene / ethylene production without compromising ethylene production. There are several possible options for producing olefins: separating propylene from FCC light ends, adding a propane dehydrogenation unit, or installing an ethylene / butene metathesis unit. This article highlights the new ethylene / butylene compound metathesis process. Enable olefins plants to recover more C3 = without loss of C2 =. Each comparison of processes with naphtha cracking was evaluated by comparison.
