Some researchers have observed that systemic injection of copper salts to female rabbits induces ovulation, and Hiroi et al found that the injection of a small amount of copper sulfate (50 μg) into the posterior hypothalamus of rabbits can lead to ovulation but not to other regions of the brain. After the injection of copper acetate into rabbits, the level of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) in the plasma of the pituitary stem cells increased, suggesting that injection of copper salts into rabbits may result in the ovulation by stimulating the release of LHRH from the hypothalamus. This paper attempts to clarify Copper Induces LHRH Release Mechanisms It is known that LHRH is stored in particles of hypothalamic neurons and the authors sought to elucidate whether CuATP stimulates isolated hypothalamic granules to release LHRH and if so, whether release of LHRH depends on KCl .
