The new generation Institute of Computer Technologies, established in 1982 by the Japanese government and the computer industry, announced that it has prototyped the model for the first Gen 5 computer. Generation 5 computers stem from a research program that cost 50 billion yen and is expected to build a parallel reasoning computer capable of performing between 100,000 and 1 billion logical inferences per second. The originality of its design philosophy lies in taking the logical operation of simulating the human brain instead of taking the chain of sequential logic as the current computer does.
