According to the analysis made by Marx and Engels in the Manifesto of the Communist Party, there are two main characteristics of the capital age: first, private interests overpower public affairs and charity gives way to capital; second, capital requirements are ubiquitously universalized and rationalized. When these two features are at the extreme, it will lead to the destruction of capitalism. In other words, the logic of capital does not have the rationality, sanctity, and legitimacy that it seems to have. The revelation we get from this is that since the logic of capital itself does not have its legitimacy, then it is necessary for us to jump out of the logic of capital itself to seek some non-capital logic and thus redirect our thinking on economic ethics. The traditional Confucianism Ideas have special significance to our rethinking economic ethics today.
