About half of Hong Kong's exports to Europe are traded at CIF prices. Exports to the United States account for about 40% of Hong Kong's total exports. Most U.S. merchants accept FOB prices. They arrange their own transportation and pay for the freight. The main advantage is that they can try their best to get the lowest possible freight rates. In the actual price of imported goods, freight accounted for a large proportion, of course, it also varies with the specific goods. Freight may be based on the value of the goods, the weight, the volume, the port of destination, but also whether the company to be carried by the freighter is a member of the shipping association.
