“巴格达响起空袭警报和爆炸声”！3月20日,新华社英文报道最先将战争开始的消息传达给全世界,时效超过包括法新、美联、路透和美国新闻广播网(CNN)等世界著名媒体。后经确认,新华社比尾随其后的CNN快了10秒。随后不久,新华社又以全球第一的速度向世界发出了《布什宣布对伊战争开始》的消息。在这两个最重要的战争开始的标志性事件报道中,新华社时效均世界第一,独占鳌头。
