In Norway, the severe air pollution and water pollution in the 1960s and 1970s prompted the Ministry of Environment to be established in 1972. Today, with the joint efforts of its domestic and international communities, Norway has seen significant improvements in the control of acid rain, atmospheric storms, air and water pollution control and waste management. This is a long and difficult process. The reasons for the success lie in a wide range of public participation, the involvement of young people and numerous non-governmental organizations, a positive and insightful media group, and the government’s commitment. But as new environmental challenges both at home and abroad continue to strengthen, the war may never end.
