本文是对美国著名新闻史及邮电史学者、哥伦比亚大学新闻学院理查德R.约翰教授的学术访谈。他先后在哈佛大学获得学士、硕士和博士学位,其专著《网络国家:美国电信的发明》和《扩散新闻:从富兰克林到莫尔斯的美国邮政系统》,曾在美国获多项图书大奖。2012年5月24日和27日,借其在北京讲学之机,笔者对约翰教授进行了访谈,内容包括:他的求学及研究历程,对部分师友同仁的评价,及其专著《网络国家》的主要思想。
This article is an academic interview with Richard J. John, a well-known journalist and historian of the United States, and Richard R. John, a journalist at Columbia University’s School of Journalism. He received his Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees from Harvard University. His monograph Network Country: The Inventions of US Telecoms and The Spread News: US Postal System from Franklin to Morse won numerous book awards in the United States. On May 24 and 27, 2012, by lecturing in Beijing, the author conducted an interview with Professor John on the course of his study and study, the evaluation of some mentors and colleagues, and his monograph Network State The main idea.
