On November 20, 1877, Edison recorded and reproduced his own voice with his “phonograph”: Mary had a lamb; and in 1897, EMI Corp.’s predecessor company began selling improved gramophones and records, The beginning of the era of music distribution. In the meantime, some folk artists in Europe started to produce and distribute albums, singing traditional folk songs and original folk songs. With the development of media such as music, radio and television, traditional folk songs have spread to the cities and appear in the new face of “urban folk”. After that, with the combination of various musical styles, they gradually developed into popular songs in the modern sense. Pop song generation and development is closely integrated with the recording technology. However, with the development of technology, the wide distribution of media and the highly-developed recording technology in the present generation have also had some negative effects on various aspects of popular songs. The so-called “double-edged sword” effect of popular song recordings is the result. The purpose of this paper is to explore the positive and negative effects of recording technology on the recording of pop songs by making a tentative probe into the effects of recording technology on the creation, performance, communication and acceptance of pop songs. And the corresponding suggestions and prospects are put forward.
