LOX-1 is an oxidized low-density lipoprotein-specific receptor (OxLDL) expressed by endothelial cells and belongs to type II single-chain transmembrane protein, C-type selectin family. OxLDL is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis. It activates the endothelium by binding to LOX-1 on the surface of endothelial cells, affecting endothelial function, damaging blood vessels and participating in the development of atherosclerosis, hypertension and thrombosis. This review summarizes recent advances in molecular biology of LOX-1.
