语言作为人类重要的交际、思维工具,是全民共同创造、使用的财富.这一点,即语言的全民性,早就是人们普遍接受的事实.近阅《语言中的“性别歧视”两面观》(载《外国语》1993年第5期,下称《两面观》),在赞叹文章细微观察和独到分析(包括对“语言决定论”的批评)的同时,却对流露于文中的语言“性别歧视说”难以表示苟同.事实上,这种看法代表了女权运动诞生后许多人在这个问题上的一种倾向,即夸大语言中贬男或抑女的成分,把个别语言现象不恰当地归咎于语言本身.本文通过与《两面观》作者商榷,旨在重申语言的全民性.有失公允之处,敬请读者明示.
