This article describes the effect of perfusing cochlear implants of guinea pigs with cochlear potential with artificial perilymph containing L-glutamic acid. The control perfusate was Elliott’s solution (artificial perilymph) and the test solution was Elliott’s solution containing 7 mM L-glutamic acid. The cochlear potential recorded during perfusion was computerized and recorded using the X-Y function meter. L-glutamic acid perfusate resulted in the reduction and disappearance of CM and APN_1. Afterward, Elliott’s fluid was used for perfused perfusion, and recovery of CM and APN-1 was not observed. Glutamate appears to be a strong depolarizing factor in guinea pig cochlea.
