Objective To study the effects of high altitude and low pressure environment on the contact lens, wearer’s eyesight and cornea. Methods Eight eyes (16 eyes) of male myopic subjects with diopters of -0.5 ~ -4.25 D were examined by wearing a contact lens with 55% water content and then 38% During the experiment at high altitude, the rate of ascending 25 m / s, rising to 2500 m and 5300 m respectively stayed for 20 min and 7000 m for 20 min, then decreased at the rate of 10-40 m / s. Visual acuity, slit lamp microscopy, and subjective sensory evaluations were performed before and after each elevation (or drop) in the experiment before and during each experiment. Results There was no significant difference in visual acuity between wearing each lens at different heights and wearing three lenses at different heights (P> 0.05). No significant changes in the transparency of the contact lens and corneal transparency, no bubbles were found under the microscope, subjective perception of visual clarity, wearing comfort no significant change, no halo, rainbow phenomenon. Conclusions Soft contact lenses are safe and tolerable in mild-moderate high altitude and low pressure environments.
