１９９３～１９９５年的研究表明：棉花黄萎病菌安阳菌系存在菌丝型、菌核型以及中间型等不同的培养类型。菌丝型为近年出现的新类型，其致病力是菌核型的２倍左右。田间致病类型主要为早期落叶型，此症状类型可造成棉花严重落叶甚至死株，其发生高峰为６月上中旬和８月下旬。菌丝型和菌核型对棉株的侵染率相同，在同一棉株内不能同时分离出两种类型菌，二者在总氨基酸含量及某些氨基酸含量上有明显差异。
