Plasma levels of cAMP, adenylyl cyclase (AC), and cAMP (cAMPDE) were measured using isotope assays in acute and chronic leukemia patients. Compared with non-leukemia patients and normal blood donors, the cAMP levels in the leukemia group were 10.23±1.64 and 12.57±1.38 pmol/ml, respectively, which were significantly greater than the normal control group at 29.78±2.66 pmol/m. With a decrease (P<0.01), the specific AC activity was 0.32±0.02 and 0.44±0.06 U/mg protein, respectively, which was significantly lower than that of the normal control group with 0.65±0.06 U/mg protein. (P<0.01), but the specific activity of cAPDE was not significantly different from the normal control group (P>0.05). In the non-leukemia patient group, the above-mentioned indicators were not significantly different from the normal control group (P>0.05). . It is suggested that the decrease of cAMP level in leukemia patients is due to the decrease of AC specific activity, but no significant correlation with the change in specific activity of cAPDE.
