1999年底,老挝共有各类工厂16540家,其中,95％为加工工业。在这些加工工业中,71％为农产品加工业和食品加工工业,其中碾米工业占一半以上。建材工业占整个工业的比重约4％,修配厂(制造小型工具,修配车辆,修配电机电器等)占3％,其他加工业占4％。 到1999年底,在上述加工工业劳动的工人人数约有11000人,1996～2000年产值年均增长率为9.26％。仅以1999年为例,增长率比1998年上升8.6％,占GDP(国民生产总值)21.8％,超过原计划产值的有:食品加工工业增长9.4％,印刷及造纸工业增长12.7％,橡胶、塑料工业增长17.3％,建材、机械工业增长8.1％,家具工业增长49.9％。
At the end of 1999, Laos had a total of 16,540 factories, of which 95% were processing industries.
