人们送探测器去火星,传统方式是计算出火星在某个时间点到达什么位置,然后发射火箭使其在同一时间到达那里。这种方式被称为“霍曼转移法”。不久前,两位科学家别出心裁,认为探测器不需要直接以火星为目的地,可以直接到达火星绕日轨道上某个位于火星前方的点,然后等火星追赶上来。他们把这种方法称为“弹道捕获法”。他们认为采用这种方法,成本可大大降低,不需要火箭耗费大量燃料,而且探测器可以在任何时间发射,没必要等待最佳发射期。不过,这种方法比较耗时间。
People send detectors to Mars, traditionally calculating where Mars will arrive at a point in time and then firing rockets to get there at the same time. This method is called “Hohmann transfer method ”. Not long ago, the scientists conceited that the probe does not need to directly target Mars. It can directly reach a point in front of Mars on a solar orbit around Mars and wait for Mars to catch up. They call this method “ballistic capture.” They think that with this method, the cost can be greatly reduced, the rocket does not require a lot of fuel consumption, and the detector can be launched at any time without having to wait for the best launch period. However, this method is more time-consuming.
