Nine clones of methyl cinnamyl ester basil were used to compare the essential oil content and composition of Ocimum basilicum growing under greenhouse conditions and in the field. The contents of essential oil, cis-methylcinnamate, linalool and 1,8-eucalyptol in field-grown basil plants were significantly higher than those in greenhouse cultivars.
