A novel cellular architecture model is proposed, in which a cell coverage is divided into annular zones by means of vertically multi-beam-splitting of base antenna for better performance. In this paper, the characteristics of handover in this cellular model are studied with the emphasis on the handover initiation probability, where the distance between the MS and the BS is used as a criterion. Simulation results show that the new model is attractive on reducing handover probability compared with the traditional sectoring cells.
