OBJECTIVE Axin (Axis inhibitor), the most important negative regulator of Wnt signaling, binds to p53, both of which promote apoptosis. To investigate the relationship between Axin and p53 expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its relationship with clinicopathological parameters and prognosis. Methods Immunohistochemical staining and Western blot were used to detect the expression of Axin and p53 in 95 cases of non-small cell lung cancer patients with follow-up data. Results The positive rate of Axin in non-small cell lung cancer was 45.26% (43/95), which was significantly lower than that in normal lung tissues. Axin expression was positively correlated with differentiation of non-small cell lung cancer (= 0.012), and was correlated with TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (<0.05), but negatively correlated with mutant p53 expression (= 0.000). Patients with high Axin expression had significantly better prognosis than patients with low expression (<0.05). Conclusion The expression of Axin is negatively correlated with the expression of mutant p53. The high expression of Axin has a good prognosis.
