我国作家大都是多面手,既能创作,也擅长翻译。鲁迅、茅盾、郭沫若、巴金文集里短不了几卷译文。作家的译文自然不同凡响,即能做到流利畅达,且有“文章之美”(评论家赞吕叔湘译文语),传达原作意境丰神。萧乾在《谈文学翻译》中说得好: “翻译不是拓版,而是要传神。如果原文是悲惨的,你不能表达那种感情,那是死译、硬译,要不得!如果原文是逗人乐的,结果人家绷着脸,一点也不乐,这也是最蹩脚的翻译。”
