柴胡学名Bupleurum,来自希腊语Bous和Pleuron二字,Bous是“牡牛”的意思,Pleuron是“肋骨”的意思,因柴胡的叶子好象牛的肋骨而得名。在中国古代药书上记载为茈胡、茈薑、茈草,均是指的柴胡,据李时珍的解释,茈胡的“茈”字音“柴”,茈薑、茈草的“茈”字音“紫”,是因为此草根为紫色,后人以“木”代“系”,统称为“柴胡”。 The Bupleurum scientific name is Bupleurum, which is from the Greek word Bous and Pleuron.
