With global trading participation continuing to strengthen, Brent crude is weighing ahead of WTI and setting a new benchmark for global oil prices. In 2016, the Bloomberg Bulk Index (BCOM) reduced the weight of West Texas Intermediate crude oil (WTI) from 7.84% to 7.47%. Meanwhile, Brent’s weight rose from 7.16% to 7.53%, putting Brent over WTI for the first time in 2012 after being included. And in 2015, the Bloomberg Commodity Index has raised the weight of Brent crude by 0.65%. Prior to this, the S & P Goldman Sachs Commodity Index, which has the largest amount of fund tracked in the international market, also made WTI the most important weight by increasing the weight of Brent crude oil
