一前言关于现代化进程与本土传统的内在历史联系,已经引起国内外学术界的普遍关注,成为现代化研究的热点理论问题之一。本文尝试通过考察泉州地区的早期现代化历程,对此略作初步的探讨。何谓“现代化”?学术界历来众说纷纭,莫衷一是。已故的罗荣渠先生在《现代化新论》一书中归纳了国内外学者的不同观点,对“现代化”的内涵作出了一般性的解释。他认为: I. INTRODUCTION The inherent historical relationship between the modernization process and the indigenous tradition has drawn the widespread attention of academics both at home and abroad and has become one of the hot theoretical issues in the modernization research. This paper attempts to investigate the history of early modernization in Quanzhou, a brief discussion of this. What is “modern”? The academic community has always been divergent opinions, incomprehensible. In the book Modernization, the late Mr. Luo Rongqu summarized the different views of domestic and foreign scholars and gave a general explanation of the connotation of “modernization ”. he thinks:
