电缆用来将电流从电源输送到目的地,其间不能有任何泄漏、损坏或者中断。将一种不导电材料包覆在金属导体表面可制成电缆,这些包覆层被称为绝缘层。设计绝缘材料时主要考虑其力学性能,例如拉伸强度、伸长率以及硬度,其次要考虑成品的电性能以及电缆处于水、油、火焰、臭氧以及紫外线环境中时的抗耐性。住宅电力电缆是一个中压应用的例子,其要求在各种不同的条件下具有较长的使用寿命,同时保持极好的电性能。为了达到使用寿命的要求,所选聚合物必须纯净,不含聚合过程所用催化剂的残余物。
Cables are used to carry current from the power source to the destination without any leakage, damage or interruption. A non-conductive material coated on the surface of the metal conductor can be made of cables, these coatings are called insulation layer. Insulation materials are designed primarily for their mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation and hardness, secondarily considering the electrical properties of the finished product and the resistance of the cable to water, oil, flame, ozone and UV light. Residential power cables are an example of medium voltage applications that require long life under a wide range of conditions while maintaining excellent electrical performance. In order to reach the end of service life, the chosen polymer must be pure and free of catalyst residues used in the polymerization process.
