The blood transfusion model in mice was used to investigate the effect of blood transfusion on the growth of local B16 melanoma. The results showed that blood transfusion between strains of different species could reduce the NK cell activity and lymphocyte transformation rate of recipient mice and promote tumor growth. The volume and weight of tumors were significantly higher than those of normal saline groups. Blood transfusions between the same strain did not have such adverse effects. This study suggests that H-2 incompatible transfusion can promote tumor growth, and decreased immune function may be an important factor in blood transfusion to promote tumor growth.
