In the early 1950s, Commemoration of the Long March by Comrade Li Po-chiu, a veteran of the Red Army, immediately aroused strong repercussions and was highly praised by all quarters. In particular, when the scene of Comrade Mao Tse-tung appeared in the play, the theater was applauded and rejoiced. Many leading comrades in the Central Government and the veterans who participated in the Long March saw this play and received favorable comments one after another. Once, Comrade Mao Zedong felt passionate but was invited to read the play. Afterwards, Mao Zedong asked his daughter to convey his opinion to Li Po-chu. He said: “I would like to write a revolution and write a long march, but I can not take my Mao Zedong as a Buddha.”
