Literary magazines in Mainland China that are marching toward a market economy are falling into an unprecedented predicament. The sudden drop in circulation and the drastic cuts in government investment have made most pure paper journals difficult to sustain. Faces and jobs, beliefs and behaviors, purpose and means, printed on the cover of the purpose and privately adopted tactics, formed a difficult conflict.
