Objective: To detect the levels of serum insulin-like growth factor-Ⅰ (IGF-Ⅰ) and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) in pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy and to explore the value of the combination of the two in the prediction of preeclampsia (PE). Methods: Serum levels of IGF-Ⅰ and IGFBP-1 in 47 patients with PE and 172 normal pregnant women were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) during the 11th to 13th weeks of gestation. The levels of IGF-Ⅰ and IGFBP- 1 and PE occurred correlation. Results: Compared with pregnant women in control group, the levels of serum IGF-Ⅰ and the level of IGFBP-1 in PE patients were significantly decreased from the 11th to the 13th week of gestation. Serum IGF-Ⅰ, IGFBP-1 levels were significantly correlated with the occurrence of PE. CONCLUSION: Elevated serum IGF-Ⅰ levels in early pregnancy and IGFBP-1 levels are associated with a higher risk of PE may be used for the early prediction of PE.
