丹巴白云母伟晶岩矿脉赋存于古生代石炭纪变质岩系地层中。在大地构造上,恰恰是川滇南北向构造带与金汤弧形构造交接处。石炭纪沉积的砂岩、板岩、薄层灰岩等,经印支运动形成一整套以矽线兰晶石榴二云英片岩、二云母片岩、石英片岩、大理岩等结晶片岩为主的中—深变质岩系,并形成褶皱、节理裂隙和断层。这些基本构造定型后,燕山期发生的一次广泛的中酸性岩浆活动在本区仅表现为区域热动力变质作用。由于丹巴处于两类构造复合处,是成矿有利地区,形成了现所开采的大型花岗伟晶岩型白云母矿床。
Danba muscovite pegmatite veins occur in the Paleozoic Carboniferous metamorphic strata.
