《说文解字》中“野”字的古文作(?),若用隶古定之法将它隶定下来,应为三部分:林、予、土。“予”在“林”字的中间,“土”在下部。然而,我们不能不对这个古文字的字形提出怀疑。首先,由“林、予、土”构成的“野”的古文字的这种写法在古代文献和古代字书中很少见到,所见者大都是由“林、矛、土”三部分构成的“壄”字或由“林土”构成的“埜”字。另外,大徐本的解说与其字形也不太吻合。我们先看一下大徐本的解说:
