This article makes a parallel comparative study of the animal poems of Phillip Larkin and Ted Hughes from the perspective of social and historical criticism and analyzes the impact of the era in which the two poets were located, that of Britain after the war on British social psychology, Although both of them show their ecological ethics of caring for animals and sharing their fate with animals in their poems, Larkin is good at portraying daily animals and domesticated cattle and sheep, while Hughes Good at writing foxes, tigers and eagles of the wild and force, reflecting Larkin “non-hero ” thinking is different from the Hughes animal fable “the only respect ” momentum.
