Endothelial microparticles (EMPs) are membrane vesicles that fall off the cell membrane upon endothelial activation or apoptosis, and are <1 μm in diameter and significantly increased in vascular-related diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and acute coronary syndrome , Is considered as an indicator of endothelial dysfunction. In addition, recent studies have found that EMP surface has a variety of active substances, in the coagulation, inflammation, endothelial function, cell survival and intracellular signal transduction has a role. The recent progress of EMP in atherosclerosis is reviewed in order to provide a new target for the clinical study of cardiovascular diseases.
