The etiology of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is a mystery and although many theories have been proposed, some clinical and pathological observations indicate that PIH may be, at least in part, consistent with the results of immunological status changes What makes sense is that after the first complete pregnancy, there is a protective effect on PIH secondary to pregnancy, and MacGilivray has suggested that any first pregnancy, even if aborted, has a protective effect on PIH secondary to pregnancy. In a study of 516 women who had an abortion and a complete pregnancy, the incidence of preeclampsia was 15.7%, while the true first birth rate was 22.2% and the true second birth rate was 8. This article describes the Parkland Memorial Hospitals and clinics from September 1977 to December 1980 for a period of 40 months
