Tennessee Williams, one of the greatest dramatists in the history of the United States, created a series of lifelike female figures in his work, and his work reveals many of the then women’s issues. Tennessee Williams, however, can not escape the influence of the patriarchal ideology, and in his works these women are loving but inaccessible to men, reflected in many examples of the man’s image in his work and the man’s attitude toward women He treats the other side of the woman under the influence of male chauvinism. This article demonstrates the potential of Tennessee Williams through the portrayal of three female figures, Amanda in his Glass Zoo, Brechin in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Alma in Summer and Smoke Male chauvinism.
