“,”This paper examines aspects of international and comparative education seen from the insider-outsider perspective. It is argued that global contexts are becoming increasingly complex. How can we understand the nature of these complexities in and outside our own cultural boundaries? Are we 'insiders' or 'outsiders? Such terms stem from a variety of disciplines relevant to education and should not be understood as bipolar constructs. Indeed are constantly changing and adapting to different contexts and circumstances. The global perspective can relate to power, oppression and suppression. The individual perspective discussed here refers to those who stay in other countries and experience other cultures. They may be outsiders and insiders at the same time. At a time when collaborative research is increasingly undertaken across different national and cultural boundaries the insider-outsider perspective has, it is argued, much to offer international comparative education.
