Recent advances in the use of different laser systems to obtain higher harmonics in strong fields are reviewed. The effects of laser pulse width, laser wavelength (from near-infrared to ultraviolet) and atomic systems on the number of photons produced and the maximum energy obtained The resulting harmonics are strongly correlated with the focusing conditions.
