李竞雄，著名的植物细胞遗传学家和玉米育种家，中国科学院生物学部院士；全国玉米新品种选育攻关课题组长和全国粮、棉、油攀登计划首席科学家。他是我国利用杂交优势理论选育玉米自交系间杂交种的创始人之一，倡导开展品质育种、群体改良和基因雄性不育研究。他培育的多抗性丰产玉米杂交种中单２号，８０年代以来每年种植面积在２０００万亩以上，最高年份达５０００多万亩；荣获国家自然科学发明一等奖。
Li Jingxiong, a famous plant cytogeneticist and corn breeder, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Breeding of new varieties of corn breeding project leader and the country’s chief scientist of food, cotton and oil climbing plan. He is one of the founders of breeding hybridization between maize inbred lines based on the theory of heterosis in China. He advocated the research of quality breeding, population improvement and gene male sterility. He cultivates the multi-resistant and high-yielding maize hybrids in No. 2. Since the 1980’s, the annual acreage has been more than 20 million mu and the highest is up to more than 50 million mu. It won the first prize of National Natural Science Invention.
