几十年来,外国便宜的租金和劳动力,迫使许多服装公司、辅料公司从时代广场周边那些兴旺的小街道关闭、缩小或者索性大规模转移到中国、印度和拉丁美洲进行生产。除了制造企业,一些设计师品牌,比如Nicole Miller、Yeohlee Teng、Anna Sui以及Nanette Lepore现在已身处危机之中。如果要重振服装行业,纽约的高租金是一个必须要解决的难题。有一个方案提出,让政府和组织补贴服装行业租金,或者找一些适合服装行业生产的租金区,而这项改革必须得到市政府官员的批准。业内人士认为,如果再不改革的话,不能为年轻的设计师提供一个良好的发展空间,那么也许将来纽约就不再是时尚之都了。曾经灵感四射、活力不穷的伦敦,早几年就成为四大时装之都中最没有存在感、最弱势的一个。如今,连曾经赫赫有名、财大气粗的国际四大时装之都之一的纽约都岌岌可危,让我们不得不思考如何才能托举一个服装产业集群地或者中心城市,并有效维护它们的发展和繁荣呢?
For decades, cheap foreign rentals and labor forced many apparel companies and accessories companies to close down, narrow down or simply massively shift from thriving small streets around Times Square to China, India and Latin America. In addition to manufacturing, some designer brands such as Nicole Miller, Yeohlee Teng, Anna Sui and Nanette Lepore are now in a crisis. If you want to revitalize the apparel industry, New York's high rent is a problem that must be solved. One proposal is for governments and organizations to subsidize rents in the apparel industry or to find rental areas suitable for the garment industry that must be approved by city officials. The industry believes that if you do not reform, then, can not provide young designers a good space for development, then maybe in the future New York is no longer a fashion capital. Once inspirational and dynamic London, a few years ago, became the most inaccessible and weakest of the four major fashion capitals. Now, even New York, one of the four major fashion capitals in the world, once famous and rich and powerful, is at risk. We have to wonder how we can lodge a cluster of apparel industries or central cities and effectively safeguard their development and prosperity.
