According to reports in Japanese newspapers, in order to support the development of IT education in developing countries, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan has recently decided to establish an “IT Education Trust Fund” within UNESCO. In fiscal 2001, Japan plans to invest 170 million yen in the IT Education Trust Fund. The fund is mainly used every year to support the 300 teachers in the Asia-Pacific region to use IT for educational research and other professional knowledge. Japan plans to invest for 10 consecutive years to support talent training and economic development in the region.
