What is “H”? State-owned shares are state-owned enterprises approved for listing in Hong Kong after being reviewed by the CSRC. H-shares are also traded in Hong Kong dollars, also known as “H” shares. The “H” is the prefix of the English name Hong Kong derived from Hong Kong. There are similar practices in other parts of the world. For example, stocks listed in Singapore are called “ S ”shares, shares listed in New York, the United States called“ N ”shares and so on. The first state-owned unit, Tsingtao Brewery (168), was listed in Hong Kong on July 15, 1993
