“When I was in Xia Village” was one of the novels that Ding Ling explored the female life situation. Its peculiarity is that it presents a sharp issue concerning the daily survival of revolutionary women: how will women who are destitute of the revolution choose their life path, and whether or not they have the happiness of their own individual life? When the concept of virginity becomes a woman’s life The ridiculous traditional China is also a very obtrusive and unsolvable problem for the revolutionary regime. Ding Ling’s understanding of this issue is precisely presented in the handling of the ending of Zhenzhen. With the end of the idea of a clear revolutionary idealism, it really solved the sharpness of the issue to a certain extent, and eventually the tension in the story contracted to be gentle. However, taking into account the shrinking historical space of Chinese women’s liberation and their dependence on the Chinese revolution, it is not incomprehensible that Ding Ling will continue to choose “Yan’an Road” for the “unsuccessful” revolutionary women in history. .
